I started off thinking about words to describe my dearest friend Nina, using the first letters of her name - but felt a bit frustrated that nice didn’t quite do her justice.

I have known Nina for over thirty-five years. It is her birthday today.

Throughout the years I have looked towards her - hoping that one day I too might be like her when I ‘grew up’. She has always exuded an elegant poise and sense of self. She is incredibly loyal, supportive and loving. She is steadfast in her commitment to her family and friends.

I think that Nina does not know how truly special she is. I have been so blessed to have been welcomed into her circle, to have been able to share a connection with a dear and much loved friend.

Though it is her birthday today I think that I, and all those who have been blessed to know her, have received the true gift today - that of her love and friendship. Grazie Mille Nina.
