Memento . Mori
Why is it that when someone dies we realise how little we know about them?
With a snap of mortality’s fingers, questions remain unasked and unanswered, reminisces remain unshared, experiences remain unexplored, feelings remain unuttered, conversations remain unsaid, wisdom remains unearthed.
All we can grasp are shared memories. We cling to the stories we’ve shared, the laughter, the pain, the brief moments in time. In some relationships these are so very brief and the chasm of unknowing so very wide.
The death of a friend, a loved one, reminds us that our time is limited. In death they leave us with an ultimate gift - a reminder to ‘Seize the day’, to appreciate living, loving and connecting with others. While we can.
